How Do You Feel About Acrylic Furniture?

Though Sean and I have different decorating tastes & styles, we usually can come to an agreement on things without either one of us being too upset. However, there is one current trend that has us totally torn- clear acrylic furniture.

Here’s a little mood board to show you what I mean:

Morgan thinks:

I like the look! I think that it is a unique play on neutrals- in fact, what is more neutral than clear?! I also think that it can be a  really cool way to add a piece fo furniture without taking up much visual space.I think accrylic furniture can be the perfect answer to a coffee table for a small studio apartment or a vanity stool that you want to simply disappear when it’s not being used. More than anything, I think that it’s a statement. It says that you don’t take yourself too seriously and that you’re not afraid to have a little fun & think outside the box!

Sean thinks:

To me, I really don’t understand it. My biggest thing is that I think it looks cheap. I know some of it is really expensive, but that doesn’t matter. It looks cheap and like it will fall apart. To me, when I look at some plastic furniture, it looks like it came from the bargain bin at Walmart. It looks like it belongs, at best, in a child’s playroom because they would think it was cool. I’m much more of a proponent of furniture that looks solid. I don’t want to sit down on something that I feel like might collapse if I put too much weight on it. Lastly, I just don’t think that acrylic furniture shows any sort of style. It doesn’t look fancy and just looks like you through some stuff in there. It doesn’t look like it has a purpose. I don’t know if I’m being harsh, but I just really don’t like it. Something solid in both construction and color makes it look like the furniture belongs and brings something to the room.

What do you think about acrylic furniture? Love it? Hate it? Don’t care? Do you have a piece in your home?
